Some Handy Windows Features (System Info and Increasing Performance)

As an IT Technician there are a range of features that can help you access information such as how much RAM you have physically installed, your model of CPU, the graphics card that is installed and modifying what services and programs start-up when your computer starts.

If you find your Windows computer running slow, you can select what programs and services start-up automatically (that may be slowing down your computer) by going to the Search bar and typing ‘msconfig’. A dialog should appear that enables you to see and select what programs and services start when your computer starts up. Sometimes when you install an application, it automatically starts when your computer starts, using up precious CPU and memory, and slows down the computer.

To quickly check how much RAM you have, what version of Windows you have installed, your CPU model, and many other specs, go the the search bar and type ‘msinfo32’. Run the application and it will list all of these specs for you to see.

To check out what model of graphics card you have installed, type ‘dxdiag’ into the Search box and run the application. Under the tab with Graphics settings your graphics card, driver and video memory details will be listed.

Hope these handy IT tech-tips help in boosting your PC performance and checking out the specs of a PC.
